The United States Fencing Association (USFA) is the recognized NGB for the sport of fencing in the United States. The USFA was founded in 1891 as the Amateur Fencers League of America (AFLA) by a group of New York fencers seeking independence from the Amateur Athletic Union. The AFLA changed its name to the United States Fencing Association in 1981.

The Canadian Fencing Federation (CFF) is the national sport governing body for fencing in Canada. Incorporated in 1971, the CFF's members include the ten provincial and two territorial fencing associations, which in turn represent just over 100 fencing clubs from coast to coast.

It is the only governing body of the sport in Ireland and is recognised as such by both the F.I.E. (Federation d'Escrime Internationale) and the Olympic Council of Ireland.The IAFF is recognised by the Irish Sports Council and the Olympic Council of Ireland as the governing body of the sport in Ireland and is also affiliated to the International Governing body of the Sport, the Federation Internationale d'Escrime (F.I.E.) and to the European Fencing Confederation (C.E.E.)

Intercollegiate Fencing Association - www.ecac.org
The IFA has 12 members. Cornell only competes in women's fencing; the remaining 11 teams participate with men's and women's teams.Seven of the members of the IFA are also members of the Ivy League, and all of the Ivy universities with Division I fencing programs are also members of the IFA.
