How To Train For The Football Combine Tests
- By Mike Gough
- Published 12/19/2007
- College Sports Articles , Football USA
How an athlete performs at a football combine can be critical in their football career. Football combines consist of the following tests: 40 yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, bench press, pro agility shuttle, three cone agility, and 60 yard shuttle. The better the athlete can perform in each of these 7 tests the better their chances of playing football at the next level whether that is high school to college, or college to the NFL. Football combine performance enhancement is twofold. The athlete needs to train to enhance their raw strength, speed, agility power and flexibility. The athlete also needs to master the proper technique for each test, ensuring that the test is performed in the most efficient manner. This will lead to a knockout football combine performance.

This article is an in-depth guide to improving your abilities as a football player. You are going to learn how to increase your speed, acceleration, agility, balance, and the most important, strength. There are three ways in which to practice increasing your speed: Improving running mechanics, improving technique, and strengthening your legs. Most players don't have great running mechanics and if they would just improve their technique, they would run a lot faster. Leg strength is important because the more force applied to the ground, the faster you will run. You simply cannot reach your full speed potential by just running sprints. A number of elements must coincide with each other if you want to reach your maximum speed potential.
Quarterback Drills

I was talking with a Major college football recruiter and I asked him what they look for in a High School Quarterback. He stated 4 things! The first thing they look for in a quarterback is mental and physical toughness. The second thing they look for is the QB footwork. The third thing they look for is Vision. And lastly is the arm strength to make all of the quarterback throws. If a quarterback has those four of these abilities then you might just get a football scholarship! A lot of mental toughness comes with football classroom work. One of the most underrated phases of quarterback training is in the football film room and the chalkboard. Most teams give the quarterback scouting reports that the coaches will review with them. Many teams after reviewing scouting reports have the quarterbacks write down the different passing plans. Such as the goal line package, the 2 minute offense.......
Offensive Line Quickness Drill - The De La Salle Tennis Ball Drill

Tennis Ball Drill For Offensive Linemen - This is a drill used by many teams to get their offensive linemen to quickly come off the ball. I first learned about it from Concord De LaSalle High School in California. Yes, the school that had the 151 game winning streak. This is a great drill for guys coaching youth football as well. The De LaSalle football coaches believe rightfully so, that the keys to great offensive line play is getting your 2 first steps down quicker than the opponents 2 first steps. I noticed the speed the De LaSalle linemen came off the ball was pretty amazing during a televised game with nationally ranked Evangel High School from Louisiana. While Evangel had a number of Division I prospects on their offensive line and averaged over 50 pound more per man than De LaSalle, De LaSalle just dominated the line.

Who is the Rightful No.1 in College Football - USC or LSU

This past week in college football was a dandy. With another wave of upsets and two of the nation’s perennial powerhouses (Notre Dame and Michigan) losing for the second consecutive week, football fans around the country are gearing up for what is likely to be a very unpredictable season in college football. However, some things seem as if they will be very stable this year; namely the success of the USC Trojans and the LSU Tigers.
USC and LSU are ranked #1 and #2, respectively. Each has a perfect record and has completely routed the competition, leaving no doubt as to their supremacy on the college level. With two such teams clearly ahead of the rest of the field, we can start imagining how the championship game will play out. Will it be John David Booty marching his explosive teammates up and down the field? Or will the tenacious, relentless Tiger defense be too much for Pete Carroll’s players. Only time will tell. But, even though the eventual meeting between these two football giants is about 4 months away, the question as to who currently deserves the No. 1 ranking invariably arises. Some say that until someone shows that they can beat USC, the Trojans deserve the top spot. However, I personally believe that LSU has the edge. Here’s why.
Miami Dolphins - So Much for Being Undefeated

Well, so much for the 2007 Miami Dolphins following in the footsteps of their 1972 counterparts; these fins aren't going to be perfect. With an overtime loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon, the Dolphins find themselves 0-1. It can only go up from here. At least, that's what we're hoping.
Now, let's not be too hard on the Dolphins. After all, they were playing the season opener on the road. With zealous fans full of eight months of bent up cheering, the road is one place you don't want your home opener to be. The road is where Dolphins, and other teams, act like fish out water. Road and all, the Dolphins didn't look horrible: with a game tied at the end of regulation, it's obvious they played their opponents tight. Plus, several NFL teams also looked shaky in their 2007 debut: the Cardinals, the 49ers, the Jets, even the NFC favorite Eagles. We could chalk it all up to nerves.
NFL System Spotlight 22 - Play Book Execution Penalties

There is little doubt that rushing and passing stats are the predominant tool of choice for handicappers looking to evaluate team strength and the accuracy of the point spread for any given game. My analysis is no different in some respects--many of my systems rely on fundamental ratings such as ROF and PDE that use yards-per-play stats to reveal situations that have been profitable versus the line.
What gets lost in all the attention directed to how well teams rush and pass the ball; however, is the fact that there are other equally important aspects of team play which can be just as predictive in nature as some of the more commonly used measurements of team skill. One such area that frequently flies under the radar of handicappers involves statistics related to team penalties and as we will explore here, certain types of penalties can be a particularly powerful handicapping tool in the right situations.
Football Scholarships

Every Division 1 College Football team receives eighty five football scholarships per year to work with. With 85 scholarships available to a NCAA football team, it’s easy to imagine the team being made almost completely up of guys who are getting a free and easy ride through school. That is obviously not the case. It is increasingly more difficult to get and retain your football scholarship through all four years of college. Understand that the 85 is split among four to five classes when you consider redshirts and that is total. Not 85 per year. So you have essentially 20 to 25 scholarships per year to work with. Now the coaches look at the potential depth chart for each position and have to weight the potential for landing that big recruit who has to receive a full ride. It is much like balancing your check book at the end of the month. X amount here Y amount here and so on…Or is it?
