Levels of Safety - There are three levels of safety/injury in the sport of cheerleading in the two different cheerleading sports. Cheerleading ranks as the most dangerous women’s sport in all safety areas. The first level of safety involves catastrophic injury in which involves permanent paralysis or death. The second level of safety involves injuries for which the athlete must receive hospital care. The third level of safety involves injuries which require missing or altering an athlete’s practice or competition schedule. Height and Motion - There are logistical reasons why cheerleading is dangerous. Any activity involving height and motion involves the risk of injury. Cheerleading utilizes tumbling (motion) and basket tosses and pyramids (height and motion) and thus is inherently dangerous to some extent.

Trying out for a cheerleading team can be one of the most exciting and scary experiences in a young girl’s life. To make a high school or lower cheerleading team it is essential to come prepared for try-outs. Here are some tips to help you be ready for your cheerleading experience. First of all, make sure you know the requirements for your cheerleading squad. Many teams require at least some basic tumbling skills, such as proficient cartwheels and round-offs, and quite a few are now requiring more advanced skills including back handsprings or even back tucks. Other requirements may include passing grades for a school cheerleading squad, a knowledge of basic cheering skills and jumps, splits, and the ability to make cheering and fund raising events.

What Are Cheerleading Clothes All About Anyway. When you were in school you likely noticed that there were a number of your female classmates who wore cheerleading clothes most of the school year. Of course, probably not for fun, but because there was always a sport in need of cheerleaders. The colors on these clothes were always brilliant and cheerful looking. You could also see the most important item on their cheerleading clothes. This was the schools team emblem.
