With over 80,000 spectators at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and nearly 200 million cricket fans in India watching the test match this was one of the most watched cricket games of the year. The Australian cricket crowd is renowned for being very vocal and at times rowdy.
No one knows for sure whether twenty-20 cricket has come to stay, whether it will flourish like one day cricket and force test cricket and one day cricket to take the back seat. No body knows either what will be the capacity of a batsman or a bowler in terms of scoring runs or taking wickets in this form of cricket? Will a batsman will be soon able to score century – a feat which till now has eluded the world’s greatest present day batters in international level in this form of cricket? Will it be in this world cup itself which kicks off in south Africa today? The highest individual score by a batsman in an international match of this form of cricket till date is 98 not out, which was been recorded by the Australian captain Rickey Ponting in 2005 against new Zealand at Auckland. The second highest individual score also belongs to an Australian – 96 by Damien Martyn.

In India, cricket lovers are keeping their fingers crossed over the question of India’s chances in this first twenty-20 world cup. India’s interest in this form of cricket has been Luke warm so far.

Cricket is a bat and ball sport, played between two teams of eleven players each. A cricket match is played on a grass field (which is usually roughly oval), in the centre of which is a flat strip of ground 22 yards (20.12 m) long, called a pitch. At each end of the pitch is a set of wooden stumps, called a wicket. A player from the fielding team (the bowler) propels a hard, fist-sized cork-centred leather ball from one wicket towards the other.

An excellent cricket tip I picked up is the power of visualisation. It is a skill which is often neglected by cricketers. For batsmen, bowlers and fielders at any level of the game it is an important skill that should be mastered. Visualisation or guided imagery is a very powerful technique that can help increase both your efficiency and effectiveness in achieving your cricket goals, whether it would be scoring one hundred runs, playing a perfect cover drive or taking that vital wicket or catch.

There are several cricket batting tips that need to be implemented properly, if a player wants to bat really well in a cricket match.
