Functional Training for Golf - The Evolution of Golf Training

The history of golf as a sport can provide us with an overview of current trends and their effects on physical development for golfers. Strength and conditioning for golf has only taken center stage in the last 15 years. This is largely due to Tiger Woods, and in addition to the growing popularity of the sport among younger players. Consider that there were only a handful of PGA professionals utilizing strength training back in the late nineties now virtually 90 percent of professional golfers are utilizing some form of resistance training whether with a physical therapist or personal trainer.

Defining Function: What is functional training? Function is clearly defined as a "purpose" following this definition functional training can be defined as performing a function or a skill. Strength training is still relatively new to many golfers. Many misconceptions and fallacies among players still exist today, even though significant research in the realm of exercise science has proven otherwise. Common fears that lifting weights will cause unnecessary muscle mass, that their swing mechanics will be altered; Resistance training will cause a loss of flexibility.

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding a golf swing. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about a golf swing. Believe it or not, when one performs a golf back swing, it is not just your arms. It is also more about the golfer's back as it turns away from the target. The club is more so as being put behind the golfer's back than it is swung up towards the air. If you look at it closely, the golf back swing actually works from up to down. The takeaway back swing begins from the top as you make the movement on your arms and follows as you do that turn on your shoulders. The movement then goes straight down towards the legs and the hips.

Golf - Swing Perfect Every Time

Would you like to swing perfect every time? If so, you need to focus on the fundamentals of your swing. The first fundamental to work on to swing perfect, is a perfect takeaway. This motion starts your swing and, believe it or not, most bad swings are all started with a far from perfect takeaway, that is often too quick and done predominantly with the wrists. Before you swing, you'll notice that as you place the club behind the ball your arms, shoulders, hands, and the club from a perfect triangle. (If they don't take up tennis) The perfect swing has to be synchronized from the beginning, so you need to focus on keeping the exact shape of that triangle as you pull the club back. Keep that triangle until your swing passes by your right thigh, or your left thigh if you stand on the wrong side of the ball. (ha ha)

Pulling the club back away from the ball should be a perfectly controlled, smooth motion as it will set the rest of your swing up for good tempo, which is what you need to hit a perfect golf shot. You can even practice this move in your living room by swinging the club back in slow motion, focusing on keeping the perfect shape of that triangle until it passes your thigh. Your swing plane back should be one where the club and your hands do pass closely to your thigh, if they don't your takeaway is a little outside.

Saving money on any sporting equipment does not give you the kind of flexibility which the bargain golf shoes give you. By spending less on the golf shoes you can actually spend the saved money for buying something that is of more use in the golf gear. But it does not mean that the shoes will be of low quality. It is high quality for less money that is why they are known as bargain golf shoes. The shoes are very much functional and fulfill the requirements of any keen golfer. Now if you spend less money on the shoes it will help you fetch good pieces of the gear which really affect your game. The better the equipment, the more refined would be your game. A large number of stores offer great deals with discounts on the golfing equipment. Earlier the golf shoes did not have a lot of variety. The game was not very popular and there was not much to select in the golf shoe range.

Every golfer wants to improve their handicap and improve the quality of their swing technique. There is one problem however, there is no such thing as a perfect swing and your golf ability and handicap are connected to how much you practice and concentrate on improving the rhythm of your swing. There is no such thing as a perfect golf swing? The laws of human nature make it impossible to have a perfect swing, so what you need to do is concentrate on repeating the swing you do have with a rhythm that allows you to get the most out of it. This is how you will improve your handicap and play well consistently. To improve your handicap work on the two elements of good rhythm:

While some may consider a golf degree to be uncommon, in all reality it is gradually emerging as one of the most sought after certifications around. The booming business that is the golf industry has branched off into a number of reliable professions. Many find getting into and moving forward in a golf career very much depends on having the right qualifications. This type of degree offers all the essential management and operations skills that would be found at any other college; however, the skills are taught specifically as they would apply to the golf industry. A curriculum with this type of focus makes a student especially desirable upon graduation. No matter what profession one chooses, those with a golf degree will always know exactly what is required by the industry. It is one of the things that have made the business as strong and dynamic as it is.

Many golfers do not realize this, but the grip is the most important aspect of the golf swing. Your grip is the only connection you have with your golf club. Many good golfers do not have the greatest swings, but they ALL have good grips. The grip is absolutely essential to perfecting your golf game. Here are a few tips to help you learn how to grip a golf club the right way. To start, there are three basic grip types you should be aware of: interlocking, overlapping, and ten finger (or baseball grip). Which of the three is the right grip for you? That will depend on which one feel most comfortable and natural to you. The grip that feels the most comfortable, will more than likely produce the best results for you.

If you have an hour to put towards improving your golf game here's what I suggest you do to get the most out of this time. When you arrive at the practice area the very first thing you should do is a few stretches to warm up and you should do this for anything up to 5 minutes or until you're warm. Once you're loosened up the next thing you should do is to start off hitting a couple of wedge shots and then slowly go through each club in your bag, hitting a few shots with each one until you reach your driver. This should take about 20 minutes. When hitting these shots you should treat each one as though it's a real shot on the golf course. In other words, choose a precise target for each shot and then go through your normal pre-shot routine.

If I had to pick just one way to score better I'd say, "improve your putting." Because it's a simple formula. If you shot a 100 in your last game of golf and you had 8, 3 putts in that score then it doesn't take a genius to work out that if you could turn those 3 putts into 2 putts then you'd score 8 shots better. Ok, we've worked out that you need to practice your putting, but how? Well it's been proven that the better the putter is the better they are at long putts, so that's where you should spend most of your time practicing. And don't just practice your putting line but rather practice hitting putts a correct weight. Because it doesn't matter if your ball is on the correct line if it's 10 feet short or long. And think about how often your putts are 10 feet wide of the hole. It's not often is it?
